So, I Act Like a Man

My best friend used to always joke and say that I act like a guy. Not in the disgusting burping and farting type of way but in my way of thinking. I never thought of it as a problem until a guy that I had been talking to brought it up. He said that it was a turn off because he felt like he was hanging with one of his friends. Now, it has me wondering why this is not okay. As women we always wish that men thought like us or understood where we came from, so why is it not okay the other way around? Guys, wouldn’t it be great if a woman understood why you wanted to go out without her or why you don’t want to go to her mom’s house or why you just want to be left alone? His comment also made me think how, as a woman, am I suppose to act? Am I suppose to put on a sexy black dress and run around singing, “Cater to You,” all day long? I’m sorry, but it doesn’t work that way. I am a single mother of two boys and after all the running around and cooking and cleaning that I do, you should be happy to get a smile when I open the door.

Now, I’m not saying that the “cater to you” affect can’t ever happen, but some women need some incentives. You can’t just come over and expect things. Don’t expect food on the table. Don’t expect to come in and watch the game. Don’t expect to get lucky at the end of the night. And if any of these things happen, some appreciation will go a long way. A ‘Thank You’, flowers, a ring, something to show her that she means something to you. The more you appreciate someone, the more they will do for you. As for me, I relish in the fact that I act like a man. I love that I am not super emotional and just have an ‘I don’t give a damn’ attitude. I love that I’d rather watch sports than American Idol. That makes me me and frankly, if you can’t handle it, maybe you need to man up. I’m just saying.
